Bee Reflection

Write a two paragraph reflection about today's Bee Presentation.  In the first paragraph, describe what you learned about bees from our presenter (and if you missed it - then from your own research).  In the second paragraph reflect on what bees mean to you and the environment around us - why are they important, and why are they at risk? What can you do to help them?

"My Connection to Nature" Reflection

Often we think of "nature" as being outside of the city or where we live - but there is nature all around us! Almost everything we do on a daily basis, especially here in the city, affects the planet in one way or another. Write a blog post explaining how you feel you do or do not connect with nature.  Explain what you think nature is, how you do (or don't) connect with it, and what you think a connection with nature should include!  Do you wish that you connected more? Or less?  What do you wish you could do to connect with nature, or how do you wish to connect less?

Expand on this with your "why." Why do you think it is (or is not) important to connect with nature? What do you worry about with yourself (or people in general) and their connections to nature?  What do you hope for the future of nature?

You can use these questions as a prompt, but do not be limited by them.  Choose your own direction!

"Acid Rain" Reflection

If you attended the APES After School, fully describe what we did in the lesson and explain the results we got. The smoke was supposed to show what happens if there is acid in the air, and the second lab was to test the air.  In the second paragraph reflect on your outcome:

  • Most people didn't get any acidic change in the air that they tested. Why do you think that is?
  • What are some changes we could have done to get better results from our air?
  • What other places could we test to see if we have acid in our air?

If you did not attend the APES After School - complete the online replacement project. In your reflection, write two paragraphs explaining what you did for the lab and explaining the results that you got.

"Story of Stuff" Reflection

For the first paragraph, describe what you got from the "Story of Stuff" video. What was the general idea? Which part of it spoke to you the most?

For the second paragraph, expand on one of the following:
  • Clearly everyone needs to consume to live; what kind of consumptions are healthy? Not healthy? Why?
  • Have you travelled anywhere that people have less stuff?  How do they deal with it?
  • This about the externalized cost of something you bought.  How much did that item cost? What costs are hidden or externalized? What would the price tag be if those costs were not externalized? Would you be willing to pay more if they were manufactured in a safe and healthy way.

  • Hypothesize what would happen if you changed the order of the materials you used
  • Why do you think yours was different from the others?
  • Which filters were most effective? Why do you think they were?

If you did not attend the APES After School, then you need to write two paragraphs summarizing what you learned by going through the Wastewater Treatment Activity Worksheet (4 Pages)
